First Friday June 2nd Gallery One Featured Artist Linda Dunn invites to you to take a visual stroll through an enchanting park featuring a collection of 3D fabric sculptures from her “Park Bench” series. Linda will be on hand from 5:30pm to 7:30pm to discuss her unique art form.
It all began innocently enough, a little utilitarian sewing, a little traditional quilting. Before I knew it my work began a metamorphosis, designs that stretch the traditional and reach beyond the quilt realm.
After all, it's all about the fabric; the colors, the patterns and how they play off each other. I am especially drawn to batik fabrics, unlike traditional quilt fabrics whose design is often superficial, having been merely printed on a woven material, the rich hues and designs of batik fabrics penetrate the weave and thus give the fabric a soul. My work represents their stories as I have envisioned them.
I have especially enjoyed working on the ongoing Park Bench series, combining wood, floral wire and other items with fabric to create 3 dimensional sculpture. I invite you to join me on a visual journey…
Driven by her love of batik fabrics and an innate ability to see things differently contemporary fabric artist Linda Dunn has taken the use of fabric beyond the quilt and into an unique art form. Having grown up in rural upstate New York she is often inspired by nature. It was during her many years spent in Alaska that she developed a strong use of color from a need to bring life to the long dark Alaskan winters. Linda's adventurist style and use of fabric in unexpected ways have earned her various awards and her work has been featured through out the Rogue Valley and beyond.
Linda currently lives in Grants Pass with her husband Mike where she is an artist at Gallery One in downtown Grants Pass. You can see more of her work on her website ArtfullyDunn.com and by following ArtfullyDunn on Facebook.
