Rogue Valley Woman Creates Her Artwork At Night With Light
GRANTS PASS, Oregon-What would you do if you could paint with light?
Andrea Boyle and over 700 worldwide members of Light Painting World Alliance do just that,
every night, around the world. Andrea will be exhibiting the results of her nocturnal journeys as
Feature Artist for the month of April at Gallery One, 229 SW G Street in Grants Pass. She will
also be demonstrating how she achieved her results and showing many of her light painting tools
at the gallery’s First Friday presentation on April 5, 2019 from 5:00-8:00.
The southern Oregon resident discovered light painting in late 2016 after her first knee
replacement. She needed a photographic hobby she could do indoors while recovering and began
researching the field. She began with spinning lights over her camera’s lens and progressed to
building a device to spin the camera around the lights. Her hobby quickly became an obsession
as she collected lights and discovered new ways of using them with long exposure photography.
Her efforts have gained her a worldwide audience on Facebook and Instagram. Her images have
been displayed by Light Painting World Alliance’s exhibitions in Paris, Beijing and recently
Morocco. Her image Canyon Visitors was also chosen as a postcard for the International Day of
Light celebration held by UNESCO in Paris, May 16, 2018.
Andrea has been with Gallery One in Grants Pass since November 2018. The public is invited to
view her artwork and attend the April First Friday event to lean more.
